In most instances when an individual enters the UK, they are granted a period of leave to remain with the option of extending it. The exception to this is visit visas which, in themselves, cannot be extended inside of the UK save in very rare circumstances where the Secretary of State is willing to exercise discretion.
Extension applications can be divided into three groups: Extension of existing leave to remain; switching from one immigration category into another category; and applications for indefinite leave to remain in the UK.
We provide comprehensive advice to all our clients as to the options that are best suited to them and any dependents when their current period of leave to remain is close to expiring. The UK immigration rules are very complex, a situation which has been heightened by recent changes to the law. We appreciate that those with temporary leave to remain in the UK will normally be very busy people that do not have the time or the expertise to research the law and any changes that may benefit them in assessing their options in making an application for leave to remain in the UK.
The Home Office frequently refuses applications from applicants acting in person because the wrong forms are used or the documentation is incomplete or the incorrect fee paid. We can advise on all of these issues and, by preparing and submitting the application on your behalf, will ensure that it meets Home Office requirements. In many instances we can ensure that applications are decided by the Home Office on the same day that it is submitted.
Whether you are studying in the UK, working, residing as a spouse, partner or other dependent relative of a person present and settled in the UK, or even if your leave to remain has lapsed, our specialist team of immigration lawyers will ensure that you receive professional advice and representation in making your application in order that you may extend your leave to remain in the UK and that of any dependent.
