New Financial Requirement for Spouse and Partner Visa Applications

The new financial requirement will apply to applicants who are making their first application on the partner route on or after 11th April 2024.

The applicant must provide specified evidence of a gross annual income of at least £29,000. Alternatively, the applicant can show specified savings of £16,000 and additional savings of an amount equivalent to 2.5 times the amount which is the difference between the gross annual income and the total amount required.

There are transitional financial requirements for applicants who made their first application as a fiancé, proposed civil partner or partner before 11 April 2024 and who were granted permission on the five-year route to settlement as a result of that application.

To make use of the transitional provisions, the applicant must be applying for permission to stay with the same partner for which they were last granted permission. Applicants who can benefit from the transitional provisions must provide specified evidence of a specified gross annual income of at least £18,600 with an additional £3,800 for a first child and an additional £2,400 for each additional child. Alternatively, applicants using the transitional provisions can show specified savings of £16,000 and additional savings of an amount equivalent to 2.5 times the amount which is the difference between the gross annual income and the total amount required.

Where the financial requirement exceeds £29,000 due to the number of children applying, the applicant need only provide evidence of a gross income of £29,000.

Those applying for permission to stay with a new partner must meet the new financial requirement of £29,000.
