Sponsor Licence Renewals Abolished 2024

From 6th April 2024 the requirement to renew Sponsor Licences will be abolished. This applies to all sponsor licences which are due to expire after 6th April 2024.

At present Sponsor Licences are only valid for 4 years. An application must then be made to renew and a fee must be paid. This will no longer be necessary after the 6^th April 2024.

What is the Sponsorship Management System ?

The Sponsorship Management System (SMS) is an online system operated by the Home Office for organisations and educational institutions that have a Sponsorship Licence to enable them comply with their duties and responsibilities as Licenced Sponsors.

UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) require that all organisations wishing to employ migrant workers must apply for a Sponsorship Licence as employer.

Universities, Colleges, Independent Schools as well as other Educational Institutions which intend to have foreign students must have a Sponsorship Licence as Educational Institutions.

The documentation that needs to be submitted to UKVI will depend on the type of organisation or educational institution concerned.

There are also time limits that must be adhered to by organisations intending to apply for a Sponsorship Licence once an online application for a Sponsorship Licence has been submitted to the UKVI.
