eVisa to replace Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs)
Biometric Residence Permits (BRPs) replaced by eVisas
The Home Office has now launched a phased roll out of the eVisa system.
What is an eVisa ?
An eVisa is an electronic record of a person’s immigration status in the UK. It will also confirm the conditions attached to the person’s status, such as permission to work. It can be viewed by logging into the persons UKVI account and selecting ‘View and prove your immigration status’. Relevant information can then be securely shared with third parties such as employers.
Physical immigration documents such as BRPs and vignettes will be phased out and replaced with eVisas.
When do we switch to eVisas ?
BRP holders are now receiving invitation emails to switch to the new eVisa system. This will be made available to all BRP holders from summer 2024. BRP holders will need to create a UKVI account to access their eVisa.
The Home Office has set a target that all BRPs will be replaced with eVisas by January 2025. The Home Office has already started to email migrants who hold BRPs, inviting them to create a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account.
