Pre-Settled Status Changes Announced 2024
Pre-Settled Status Changes Announced
On 21st May 2024 the UK Home Office confirmed further changes to the EU Settlement Scheme.
Durations of pre-settled status extensions will be changed from 2 to 5 years.
The expiry date will be removed from pre -settled status digital profiles simplifying the process for right to work and right to rent checks. Employers and landlords will no longer be required to conduct further checks where the applicant remains in employment or a tenancy agreement.
Significantly, from 21st May 2024 holders of pre-settled status will no longer lose their status if they stay outside the UK for 2 years. Leave will now lapse if holders of pre-settled status stay outside the UK for 5 years, (or 4 years for Swiss nationals and family members) mirroring the provisions for holders of settled status.
