Appendix Long Residence 11th April 2024
Appendix Long Residence comes into force on 11th April 2024.
The Long Residence route is for a person who has lived in the UK lawfully and continuously for 10 years or more. The person can count time with permission on most routes towards the 10-year qualifying period.
The applicant may apply for immediate settlement if all requirements are satisfied. Alternatively, the applicant may be granted temporary permission to stay if they meet suitability and continuous residence requirements but do not meet the English language or knowledge of life in the UK requirements. Temporary permission is granted for a period of 24 months.
Time spent in the UK on immigration bail, temporary admission, permission as a visitor, short term student or seasonal worker cannot be counted towards the qualifying period.
Time spent in the UK as an EEA national or the family member of an EEA national can now be used towards the qualifying period.
Appendix Long Residence now requires applicants to hold their current permission for one year or have been exempt from immigration control for the 12 months immediately preceding application, unless current permission was granted prior to 11th April 2024.
