Increased Fines for Illegal Working
On 13th February 2024 maximum fines for employers employing individuals without permission to work trebled. Employers were previously fined £15,000 per illegal worker for their first offence and £20,000 per worker if they were a repeat offender. Employers can now be fined £45,000 per illegal worker and £60,000 per illegal worker if they are a repeat offender.
It is therefore essential that employers carry out the correct Right to Work checks at the correct time throughout the employees employment to maintain a statutory excuse.
