Skilled Worker Visa 2024 Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules Published
On 14th March 2024 the UK Government published a new Statement of Changes in Immigration Rules. The Statement of Changes sets out the significant reforms to the Skilled Worker Route previously announced by the Government. The key changes are as follows:
From 4th April 2024 employers must pay those entering on the Skilled Worker Route the new general salary threshold of £38,700 (increased from £26,200) or the new ‘going rate’ for the role, whichever is higher.
The Shortage Occupation List (SOL) is removed and replaced with the new Immigration Salary List. Occupations on the Immigration Salary List can be paid 20% less than the general salary threshold.
The Standard Occupation Classification (SOC) code system has also been updated. The new system must be carefully considered and applied to applications for certificates of sponsorship made after 4th April 2024.
New salary requirements for other work routes will also be implemented:
- The general salary threshold on the Senior or Specialist Worker (Global Business Mobility) route is increased from £45,800 to £48,500.
- The general salary threshold on Graduate Trainee (Global Business Mobility) route is increased from £24,220 to £25,410.
- The general salary threshold on Scale-up route is increased from £34,600 to £36,300.
- The general salary threshold for certain poultry workers on the Seasonal Workers route will also increase from £26,200 to £38,700.
